Victory: H4236 Passes!

An image of a 1976 law with a red stamp over it reading "REPEALED"

We did it. H4236 is on its way to the Governor.

Information below on how to say “thank you” to our legislative allies.

As of this morning, H4236 has passed the State House and Senate and is poised to be signed into law!  As a reminder: H4236 repeals the 1976 law that banned the construction of MBTA facilities near the Arlington Catholic High School, specifically to prevent a Red Line extension.

This is a big moment.  For 48 years, state law has blocked extension of the red line.  But that law isn’t going to make it to 50.

This is a cause for celebration, and you should be proud: we generated dozens of documented calls and emails to Senator Cindy Friedman to help drive this bill to the Senate floor.  That’s huge.

This is only one step of many ahead, but it’s a very exciting moment.  And if we want to replicate this legislative victory, we need to make sure we’re encouraging the legislators who stood with us so they’ll do it again.

Simply put: let’s say ‘thank you!’

Here’s how:

Congratulations, everybody.

Example H4236 Thank You Letter

Dear Senator Friedman/Representative Garballey/Representative Rogers,

I’m simply writing to say: thank you!

I saw the news that H4236 has passed the House and Senate and I’m thrilled that we’re that much closer to stronger transit options for Arlington and beyond.

I know that you were a critical part of this bill making its way through the legislative process.  I hope you know that there are a lot of folks out there who see that work, and appreciate it.

Thanks again for your support and effort,
